據外媒取得之內部資料提到，在 AirPods Pro 於 2019 年 10 月首度發布前的數月，Apple 是有想過將 AirPods Pro 定名為 AirPods Extreme，像過往 AirPort Extreme 路由器一樣，不過這想法就得不到品牌員工支持，於是這款全無線耳機最終的名字，就是大家現在所知的 AirPods Pro。
事實上 AirPods Pro 這個名字跟 MacBook Pro、Mac Pro 及 iPhone XX Pro等都是代表該款產品的高階版，所以以 Pro 來命名確是更為歸一，以及用家也更易理解其產品定位的。現時據指第 3 代 AirPods Pro 將於下年推出。
